Chester City 0 Wycombe Wanderers 2
It was another disappointing day at the office for Chester City as their poor start to the new League Two campaign continued with a 2-0 defeat by Wycombe Wanderers.
A goal in each half was enough for Chester to suffer another defeat in front of a desperately disappointing attendance of 1,419.
The game started brightly with both sides enjoying chances, but against the run of play, Wanderers took the lead. The goal came in the 26th minute when a long ball from Craig Woodman ran all the way to John Mousinho, who lofted it over the stranded keeper John Danby and into the net.
Both Damien Mozika and Tommy Doherty went into the book in what was a scrappy first half with both sides wasteful with possession.
Chester looked brighter at the start of the second period and were denied in the 50th minute when a cross found its way to Ryan Lowe at the back post and his goalbound effort was brilliant beaten away by keeper Scott Shearer.
Tony Dinning wasted a good shooting opportunity by firing his effort well over the bar and Kevin Ellison headed wide just after the hour mark.
In the 63rd minute a pass from Ellison set Lowe clean through on goal but the striker's shot was saved by the legs of the keeper.
Wycombe added a second in the 66th minute when they were awarded a penalty which was dispatched by Scott McGleish after Chris Zebroski had been brought down in the box by Laurence Wilson.
A late Leon Johnson header then cannoned back off the bar as Wycombe looked to cement victory.
