1985 - 1986Harry McNally produced a minor miracle in taking the by now re-namd Chester City to promotion in 1985/86. Striker Gary Bennett followed McNally from Wigan Athletic and quickly formed a notable partnership with Stuart Rimmer as we won seven games out of nine, including a 6-3 victory at Preston. They lost 1 -0 at home to Swindon but went top of the table after a 1-0 win at Exeter in November. We overcame the loss of key players Andy Holden and Stuart Rimmer with injury, signing Ian Richardson from Watford. We won promotion with a 0-0 draw at Orient with three games remaining and were Third Division runners-up with 84 points. Match Quick Links
