1974 - 1975Ken Roberts plotted Chester's first ever promotion success in 1974/75. Twins Paul and Ron Futcher were sold to Luton Town and newcomers included Trevor Storton and Gary Moore. Chester had an excellent home record, with John James and Derek Draper forming a lethal partnership as they beat Walsall 2-1, Blackpool 3-1, Preston 1-0, Leeds United 3-0 and Newcastle 1-0 before losing 3-2 to Aston Villa in the League Cup semi-finals. The squad was strengthened by the signings of Dave Lennard and Graham Pugh; with Chester gaining a crucial 4-1 victory over Lincoln who they pipped to fourth place on goal average. Match Quick Links
