1946-1947
Dick Yates netted a club record 36 League goals as we achieved a new points record in 1946/47.
Ever present Tommy Burden scored twice as we resumed Third Division (North) football after the war with a 4-4 draw at York City.
George Scales took over in goal and Trevor Walters returned at centre-half as we embarked on a 16 match unbeaten run that took them to within a point of Doncaster Rovers at the top.
We took Stoke City to an FA Cup fourth round replay and recovered from a poor spell to finish strongly in third position with a record 56 points. We hammered Merthyr Tydfil 5-1 in the Welsh Cup final replay.
