Saints have edge over Youth
Article Date: 5 Aug 2007
Youth News
Simon Davies and Mark Newman took a young youth team to play The New Saints from the Welsh Premier League on Saturday, who will rue the many missed opportunities as they lost out 2-1.
With all the first year scholars playing together for the first time things were always going to be trial and error but the players gelled well enough to put the home keeper under pressure from the first whistle.
Lloyd Ellams had the first of a number of chances but managed to put the ball over the bar in a one on one with the keeper and it was against the run of play that the home team scored with a lapse in concentration in the city defence.
City started the 2nd half where they had left off forcing a number of good saves out of the home keeper and with just rewards 1st year scholar Frazer Ablett placed the ball into the net after good work from sub Steven Thorpe.
With the restart of play, the Saints defence delivered a 40 yard pass into space for their right winger to cross leading to the inevitable winning goal.
Youth take on TNS but lose by a narrow margin
